His uncompromising, but firm position on issues has earned him the respect of both his comrades and allies. He believes that "thinking locally, but acting nationally" is the best method to influence culture through the local church. Tony and his wife Lawana reside in Louisiana. They have three children and five grandchildren.

He was a great companion and was able to make you laugh, even on your worst day. He is survived by his daughter Holly Ranee Hunter, son Travis Lynn Hunter as well as his mother Lynda Phelps Hunter. He also leaves behind his sisters Ronahkaye Shrum, a.k.a. Mopsy and two nephews Zackary Hunter and Adrian Hunter.
