3 Wheeled BuggiesA 3-wheeler can be used for off-road walking and for tackling terrain such as rough roads or tracks in woodlands. They are also easier to navigate up and down kerbs in comparison to 4-wheel models.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums reviews, tried one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac, as well as on a variety of terrains. You can read her full review here.
Stability
With four wheels and a centre of gravity that's balanced by weight of your child in the seat, buggies with four wheels are generally considered to be more stable than
3 wheeled pushchairs-wheelers. However, that doesn't mean the three-wheel buggie isn't worth considering, as some of these models are made to cope with anything from rough terrain to busy high-streets.
Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels, as well as one that locks on the front. This makes it easier to drive and less likely to snap apart on bumpy roads. These all-terrain buggies also have pneumatic tires, which are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces. They can be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodlands.
They are also excellent buggies to run with as they provide excellent stability on more rough terrain and help you stay with your running partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and many of them have spring suspension built-in so that your baby can enjoy a comfortable ride.
The main factor that makes a
3 wheel double buggy-wheeled pushchair difficult to maneuver is the large frame, which makes it harder to fit through narrow and tight doors than a four-wheeler. Some manufacturers have addressed this issue with a clever design which turns the wheels upside down when they are not in use. This reduces their size and makes it easier to maneuver through doors.
It's also important to think about whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your baby from birth or if you're planning on using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. If so, make sure it has an upright position and if the design is compatible with second seats and buggy boards (if you'd like to add an infant onboard). Many 3-wheelers can fold flat, and later be put up in a upright position. This is a good option if you only have a small boot space or limited storage at home. Some 3-wheelers require you to remove the front wheel in order to fold them into smaller spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies typically offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. Many of them have a swivelling wheel on the front, which allows you to steer and change direction using just one hand. Some also have a lockable front wheel which can give you security on more difficult terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, should you decide to grow your family.
If you're considering taking your three-wheeled vehicle off of roads, you should consider opting for a vehicle with air-filled tyres (also called pneumatic tyres) which are able to withstand the most challenging terrain. These tyres may need to be pumped up from time to the point, but they will be more durable and puncture-proof than solid tyres. Find a model with a the ability to lock the swivelling wheel on the front to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.
The fact that there is only one front wheel could indicate that three-wheelers can be bulkier than four-wheeled buggies when folded. Make sure the model you choose fits in the boot of your car and can be raised if required. Certain models can be folded using one hand, and can be raised when folded. This can save space in small car boot.
A well-constructed three-wheeled pushchair can handle most terrains from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to consider what you'll be using it for every day. If you'll be running the school run, it should be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you'll be running on it, make sure it has an adjustable swivelling'stretch' lockable front wheel to ensure that the ride is safe.
Kath who is an MFM reviewer, found that her stroller with three wheels was able to take on urban and rural walks. Kath noted that it was able to navigate cobbles, rough paths, and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable while running. It's also a great option for day trips, as it has plenty of storage space, including a large, spacious basket with zip-top cover and an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can be adjusted to fit a baby's needs from birth, with the option of a carry cot or a lie-flat seat. It's also compatible with the most well-known second seats and stroller boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary difference between a fabric sling and a modular seats is that the fabric sling fits in the frame of the buggy instead of being positioned on top like a modular seat would. This allows for a more comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, leading to a lower center of gravity that is the ideal height. This in turn makes for an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you do not require the same amount of effort and weight to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and a better balance and stability.
The sling fabrics used in these types of buggy seats are also extremely durable and easy to clean. They were designed specifically with applications for sling chairs in mind they are UV-resistant and air-tight. They also have an excellent anti-aging capability and are easy to clean with water and soap.
If you're a jogger, or like to do some off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler is likely to be more suited to your needs than a buggy with four wheels. These styles tend to have a wider base, more stable and utilise air filled tyres to ensure smooth, easy moving on uneven ground.

3-wheel buggies are ideal for off-road and all terrain adventures because they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The huge, highly maneuverable front wheel allows for a quick and smooth movement, whilst the tyres are typically filled with air and have suspension, providing an excellent ride on the roughest roads and trails. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be with 4 wheeled pushchairs. This makes them perfect for walking uphill.
