Origins
The company was founded in 1917 and its beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the beginning of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.
In the late 1980s the company began expanding overseas to take advantage of sales and new markets. The company founded the Cera Trading Company to import and market other manufacturers' products to enhance its own line of sanitary earthenwares as well as plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expanded the firm's global market share.
In the 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis on research and development for water-related household appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve its customers and boost profits. The company implemented a just-in-time method of managing supply chains and used the same method in its sales program. This resulted in a higher level of satisfaction with the customer.

Discography
With a name as evocative as Asia one would think that the group would be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a fairly straightforward rock band. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the after he was charged with drug abuse. the group continued to perform as a trio featuring Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet arrangement of previous albums and was a stronger, more consistent effort that had a harder edge than Hydra. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album followed just a few months later and the band embarked on an extensive world tour to promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a duo album titled Then and Now. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
